Reviews NZ Musician Magazine This is a unique two CD set from Ron and Lindy Valente, (also) known as the Gypsy Pickers. Unique in that it's a collection of two distrinct albums - 'Lindy's Songs' and 'Ron's Songs' - and they're quite different. Lindy's are more introspective and mantra-like while Ron manages to nail that particularly Pacific soft reggae thing. The production quality on both CDs is amazing, especially when you consider it was recorded in an eight-track studio powered by a generator. There are some serious heavyweights on these albums: bassist Sid Limbert with son Freddie on drums and The Coalrangers' John Lloyd on keyboards, accordian and harmonicas to name a few. Beautiful artwork throughout, even on the discs themselves, and comprehensive lyric sheets complete this stylish two CD set.
Managing Director EMI Music NZ I found the two CDs to be delightful and full of interesting songs. Programme Director, K1W1 I'd like to say thanks for sending in a copy of your 'Aurora' album, it's great! The CDs give a clear sense of eclecticism that the music world needs! Gazz-ette The Valentes (aka Gypsy Pickers) are New Zealand based global musicians. Their music is a rich blend of reggae, country, folk and blues. Aurora comes as two compact discs; one being Lindys Songs, and the other being Rons Songs. Lindys Songs includes the jazzy Real Me, the earthy Bit Of Magic, the strutting Hes Coming Home, and gypsy flavoured Little River Lullaby. Rons Songs includes the reggae based title track, Nikau Palm that comes complete with natures atmospherics, Illuminati is a song with a real message, and the rustic Blues For The Bluesman. You may think that having two separate discs is an unusual arrangement, but it works, as their composition styles are slightly varied, and this suits the packaging. Lindy sings and plays a fusion of jazzy-country, whereas Ron performs with more reggae-country leanings. Their vocals are sublime, and their musicianship is world-class. NZ/USA Musician The CD's arrived and I just LOVE them! "Dancing in the Light of the Moon" is breath takingly beautiful. I love the 'poise'æ and easy feelingæthe music gives off. And the phrasing. Few words, yet powerful and descriptive. Well done Ron! Lindy, your music is so energetic, bright and sparkly! Thank you both! It very much enriches this planet. Sounds FM Home for lunch and playing your CD's. They arrived safe and well this morning.Rapt, plenty of Grunt [Lindy], sweet diction, Quality Thru and Thru, but you guys already know that.
